#WonglingEats in Klang

Here's a post that will divert from my usual (which are usually about my feelings, experiences, setbacks and well, God!)  to talk about my food journey today!

So this morning we started our journey to Klang from Shah Alam at 9 plus. We reached the famous Mee Hoon Kuih restaurant at about 9.40am.

Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih House, located in Berkeley, opens at 9.30am.

Andrea and I, waiting for our food.

Only RM4.50 per bowl with an additional 70 cents for an egg.

We had a review of all the food we ate and for this mee hoon kuih noodles, this is what we rated:
Rachel - 7/10
Nothing special about it save for the clear soup and cheap price.
Andrea - 6.5/10
The service was slow so don't go there hungry. You will come back hangry. The food that came didn't compensate for the total time waiting.

Next, we went to try out beef noodles which was only a few restaurants away!

Cheong Kee Restaurant, also in Taman Berkeley.
We ordered beef stomach and beef balls for RM9.

Rating:
Rachel - 5/10
I have tasted way better beef noodles. Even the ones near my house is tastier and cheaper than this. Quite disappointing la tbh.
Andrea - 3/10
My expectations was being compared to the ones I had in Seremban but when it came it was not as what I expected. The soup wasn't flavourful and it was just like a normal anywhere-you-can-find sort of beef noodles. Tldr; don't bother travelling all the way here to try this.

Right beside Cheong Kee was a stall that sold fritters so we tried a few since we were already here.

Andrea ordering for us.

Lin Kou for RM1.30

Rating:
Rachel - 2/10
The yam was thicker than the lin kou which defeats the purpose because it's the lin kou that makes it nice.
Andrea - 1/10
For the price I pay, it's not worth it. Too much yam and lin kou wasn't sweet.

Prawn Fritters (Cucur) for RM1

Rating:
Rachel - 9/10
From everything we've tried all morning, at least this was good. It's a decent sized cucur with crunchy texture.
Andrea - 10/10
It's a dollar and it has so much more flavour than the lin kou.

Given that it was a really hot morning and we had too much hot and greasy food, we decided to hunt for the nearest cendol place. So waze told us there was one 3km away but it was in fact, 7.4km. We were cheated!

Cendol Klang which was established in 1972.

We ordered an ice cream cendol for only RM3.50.

Rating:
Rachel - 8/10
Once we reached half the bowl, we discovered that it actually had a lot of fillings (cendol and kidney beans)! You can even pick your own ice cream flavour! Refreshing after a hot day out. 😋
Andrea - 8/10
It's a good, cheap, thirst quencher on a really hot day. It made me happy! You've got the best of both worlds with ice cream and cendol. *cue Hannah Montana song*

We spoke for a bit to waste some time before leaving for Taman Andalas for a lunch.

So we had to try the famous bamboo briyani la, since their tagline is "taste and see" kan. They open at 12noon so come early to get seats.

They have quite a huge range of briyani rice from the usual to more special ones like crab and turkey biryani.

We ordered the mutton briyani to share for RM15.

Rating:
Rachel - 9/10
The rice was fragrant because they cook it in bamboo shoots (the same buluh they use to cook lemang) and the mutton was very tender and yummy. Had a very filling lunch.
Andrea - 11/10
It did not disappoint. I would actually travel to Klang to eat this. Affordable price with really fragrant briyani rice and not stingy with their mutton. Even the assam boi drink I had was good as it was very refreshing and prepped me for the briyani. Ps: They have an outlet in Setia Alam next to Jaya Grocer but it's a container concept restaurant with RM2 more expensive.

Andrea happy with her drink which was also in a bamboo.

This marks the end of our Klang food journey. Stay tuned for more food trips from the Wonglings. Peace out, guys!
